Access to

Work:

If you have ADHD and you’re employed, self-employed, or about to start work, you may be able to get government funding for coaching through Access to Work (AtW).

Many people don’t realise this support exists — or they feel overwhelmed by the process.

This guide breaks it down clearly and simply.

What is Access to Work?

AtW is a UK government grant which is run by Department for Work and Pensions that funds support such as:

  • ADHD Coaching

  • Assistive technology

  • Support workers

This support is for people with disabilities, long-term health conditions (including mental health), to stay in work. ADHD and all forms of neurodivergence qualify and you do not need a formal diagnosis.

Importantly:
  • It is a grant (you don’t pay it back).

  • It does not affect your benefits.

  • It is separate from reasonable adjustments your employer must provide under the Equality Act 2010.

  • You get to choose who you work with.

Can I Apply If I Have ADHD?

Yes! You do not need to be on medication, you just need to be:

  • Employed

  • Self-employed

  • About to start a job (or a business)

  • On an apprenticeship

  • In paid work (including part-time)

Why ADHD Coaching is Funded

Access to Work recognises that ADHD can have a huge impact on work, including more nuanced difficulties around emotional regulation, managing workload, sensory processing difficulties and risk of burning out.

Within the context of work, coaching can be invaluable and help you with personalised structured support to:

  • Develop sustainable systems that help you long term

  • Reduce overwhelm

  • Improve confidence

  • Stay happy and healthy

  • Improve your performance at work
